Milk Fat Satisfies for 6 Hours
The French Diet I recently reported on suggested to consume dairy fat to curb hunger and cravings. Experts say, and I've experienced myself, that the fat in milk will keep us satisfied for 6 hours. (Fat in meats is also said to have the same effect.)
With September - and Labor Day - approaching, many of us are heading back to school. In college, there are often no breaks between classes, and there is no set lunch time. But having a bowl of cereal with whole milk for breakfast will fend off hunger till after classes end for the day. In the afternoon, you'll be ready for a healthy lunch.
Be careful when you eat a full serving of milk. Eat it at an early breakfast (before 10 a.m.), lunch promptly by noon, dinner or dessert, only, or you may skip important meals, such as lunch, thus slowing your metabolism--or you could end up eating dinner too late (and throw your schedule out of wack). To have whole fat dairy for lunch or a snack, choose a small serving of yogurt. And great news--a serving of whole fat dairy for dessert can keep you from eating too late in the evening. You can even follow the strict diets that guide not to eat a thing after 6:30 p.m., and still go to bed at 12:30 a.m. not feeling hungry. (Those diets seem crazy to me, as a night owl, I get hungry.) You'll certainly have no problem keeping to the general 2 - 3 hour rule (but you should still plan your eating and bed--and rise--times in a healthy manner.)
